Tip: Carbide Bit at Home Depot - Old Jaybird
I use Porter Cable solid carbide bits available at Home Depot for around $13, and sometimes on sale for $2-3 less. They are double flute type.

Lowe's doesn't seem to carry anything comparable...strange.
